Dear Parents, 

     Some pertinent facts concerning the opening of school on inclement weather/snow days:

     *  If Hampton City Schools close, Gloria Dei School follows the same decision.  Once you hear on either a radio station or television station that Hampton City Schools are closed for the day, know that Gloria Dei School follows that decision.  We do not make up snow days.

     *  If Hampton City Schools delay the opening of school, Gloria Dei School follows the same decision.  If your child attends Gloria Dei's preschool, pre-kindergarten, or kindergarten with a noon dismissal, it is your decision on delayed opening days whether you choose to bring your child for 1 1/2  to 2 hours of school  If your child does not attend, it will not be considered an absence on the report card.

 

     *  If Poquoson OR Tabb OR York County Schools delay the opening of school, Gloria Dei school buses will run on the same schedule in these areas.  Ex:  If Poquoson delays school one hour, expect the Gloria Dei school bus to arrive one hour later than normal.  If you reside in an area in Hampton adjacent to these areas, the same delay or closing schedule will be in effect.  Examples of Hampton areas are Sunlun Lakes, Magruder Boulevard, Belgrade, Samantha Lakes, Bethel Manor, ect.  If you have any questions about this policy, please call the Transportation Coordinator, before the snow day.

 

     *  If Hampton City Schools decide to dismiss early, Gloria Dei may or may not follow the same procedure.  You need to listen to either the radio or television for this revised schedule.

 

     *  Should your child ride a 3 o'clock bus, we may make an in-house decision to send your child home during the noon dismissal if you live in Poquoson, Tabb, or York County.  We will make every effort to contact you with this decision prior to the 12 o'clock delivery.  You can help us by being near your phone.

 

     *  It is very unusual situation when  Gloria Dei Lutheran School's child care program is canceled due to inclement weather/snow.  However, if the conditions are severe, listen to radio station WWDE (101.3 FM), television stations WVEC (Channel 13), or WTKR (Channel 3) or check this web site for this announcement.   If there are any changes in our normal routine, you will be informed.  

 

     It is important that you use the resources available to you through the radio, television and this web site for needed information.  Do not tie up the school's phone lines for this information.  If information is not available on these resources, a decision has not yet been made.  Be patient and keep listening.

 

     Should school close and child care is in operation, our hope is that you would pick up your child(ren) as early in the afternoon as your schedule permits.
